Coláiste Muire is a co-educational secondary school, under the trusteeship of CEIST, situated in the west of Ireland in the town of Ballymote. Ballymote is located 22 kilometres from Sligo town. The school serves a large catchment area across South County Sligo.

There are approximately 250 pupils currently attending Coláiste Muire. The school has a staff of 20 teachers. Coláiste Muire operates a 6 year cycle catering for students aged between 12 and 18.

Programmes covered include the Junior Certificate, the Leaving Certificate, the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and the Transition Year Programme. 

The school is fortunate to have a most caring and friendly staff, all of whom are committed to the delivery of a comprehensive range of subjects, courses and events covering both the curricular and the extra-curricular.

Recent News...

5km Fun Run / Walk

Well done to everyone who participated in our fun run / walk on Tuesday 21st May.  It was a great success.  Thanks to everyone who helped to organise the event and a special word of thanks to Jill, Rory, Vanessa, Declan and Jason.  Thanks also to Ann for taking care of the technical end of things and to the Parents Association for helping with the refreshments.  Below is a list of the fininshing times.

 

 

 

Learn to Earn

The Transition Year students of Coláiste Muire Ballymote were recently awarded certification from Junior Achievement Ireland in recognition of their recent completion of the Learn to Earn Programme.  This programme was provided by Declan Corcoran of Bank of Ireland Ballymote in four sessions over a period of  four weeks.  Sincere thanks are extended to Declan Corcoran for facilitating this programme.

School Bank

The new school bank in association with Bank of Ireland Ballymote opened on Wednesday 17th April 2013. The Bank team is made up of Manager (Sarah Healy, 5th year), Operations and Audit Specialist (Emer Lennon, Transition Year), Sales and Marketing  (Joe Cobbe, Transition Year), Customer Service (Ryan Hennessy & Ciaran Anderson, Transition Year).  Many thanks to Declan Corcoran from Bank of Ireland Ballymote for his expertise and assistance with setting up the School Bank and to Ms. Carty for co-ordinating the project.

Internet Safety/Cyber Bullying Seminars by Dr. Maureen Griffin:

Dr. Maureen Griffin gave 2 seminars to students and 1 to parents on Tuesday 16th April 2013.  Both seminars provided parents and students with valuable resources in the area of Internet Safety.  Parents can access further information from her website by clicking here.

Shave or Dye 2013:

1st and 2nd year students who between them raised over €1,000 for the Irish Cancer Society’s ‘Shave or Dye’ campaign

Coláiste Muire Fundraising Cycle Tour: Thanks to everyone who supported our fundraising cycle on Sunday 10th March.  Thanks also to the Parents Association for organising this very successful event.  Click here for more pictures.

Sligo County Enterprise Board Schools Programme Senior Runner-up: Congratulations to Emer Lennon and Karen McGrath (Transition Year) and their teacher Yvonne Carty, who were awarded the Senior Runner-up award in the Sligo County Enterprise Board Schools Programme Regional Finals in Sligo on Monday 4th March. Whole School Evaluation - Management, Leadership & Learning: Coláiste Muire recently underwent a Whole School Evaluation.  Thanks to all staff, students and parents for great work and support during the evaluation and the weeks leading up to it.  We await a very positive outcome in the coming months.
