About our school

Coláiste Muire is a co-educational secondary school, under the trusteeship of CEIST, situated in the west of Ireland in the town of Ballymote. Ballymote is located 22 kilometres from Sligo town. The school serves a large catchment area across South County Sligo.

There are approximately 310 pupils currently attending Coláiste Muire. The school has a staff of 25 teachers. Coláiste Muire operates a 6 year cycle catering for students aged between 12 and 18.  Programmes covered include the Junior Certificate, the Leaving Certificate, the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and the Transition Year Programme. 

The school is fortunate to have a most caring and friendly staff, all of whom are committed to the delivery of a comprehensive range of subjects, courses and events covering both the curricular and the extra-curricular.

 

Curriculum

Junior Cycle students take English, Irish, Maths, History and Science as core subjects.  Students choose one language from the options French and German and three subjects from the following: Coding, Geography, Business Studies, Graphics, Woodwork, Home Economics, Music and Art.

We offer an excellent Transition Year programme, which is optional to students completing their third year.  There is a selection process which is detailed in our Transition Year Application policy on our Downloads page.

Senior Cycle students take English, Irish and Maths as core subjects and choose four subjects from the option subjects Business, Accounting, Home Economics, Art, Music, Agricultural Science, Phys-Chem, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, History, DCG and Woodwork.  Please note that all subjects are offered at Senior Cycle, but will only run should there be sufficient numbers to do so. 

Senior Cycle students also have the option of taking the Leaving Cert Vocational Programme (LCVP) and this is encouraged.
